How do referrals work?
Referrals can be made by families, social workers, schools, healthcare
professionals or other agencies. Once a referral is received, we carry out an
initial discussion and assessment to understand the child's needs, routines, risks
and support requirements. We will only accept referrals where we are confident we
can safely and appropriately meet the child's needs.
What ages do you support?
North Care Services supports children and young people under the age of 16 who
require additional support within their home or community environment.
Do you provide emergency support?
We aim to provide flexible support where possible, including short-notice or
emergency support depending on staffing availability, risk assessment and the
child's needs. All emergency requests are assessed carefully to ensure support can
be delivered safely.
Are staff trained in autism support?
Yes. Staff receive training in autism-informed practice, trauma-informed care,
safeguarding, emotional regulation, communication support and behaviour support
approaches. We are committed to ensuring children receive compassionate and
understanding support tailored to their individual needs.
What areas do you cover?
North Care Services provides support across Edinburgh and the Lothians, including
Edinburgh, West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian. Support may also be
considered in surrounding areas depending on the child's needs, staffing
arrangements and travel requirements.
Is your service regulated?
Yes. North Care Services is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Scotland and
operates in line with the Health and Social Care Standards.
Can support be flexible?
Yes. We understand that every child and family is different, so support is tailored
around assessed needs, routines and family circumstances. This may include
after-school support, evening support, weekend support, respite at home or
community-based activities.
How are care plans created?
Care plans are developed collaboratively with the child, family and relevant
professionals. Plans are tailored to the child's individual needs and include
routines, communication preferences, emotional and sensory needs, risks, wellbeing
outcomes and agreed support strategies. Care plans are reviewed regularly to ensure
support remains appropriate and effective.
